Yoga For Children

Bringing Yoga to Children
Join Sheila to explore simple ways to bring yoga to kids, in a school setting, a studio setting, at home or in an after school program.  This program is designed to give yoga teachers quick, simple and, most importantly “easy to remember” yoga practices for kids.  The workshop will feature yoga poses, breathing practices, games and “time in” that integrate and energize the mind-body in 5 to 15 minutes.  The practices are designed primarily for pre school through elementary age children.  Get ready for a lively, playful afternoon.
Yoga Ed  is designed to teach effective home and classroom behavior management by enhancing focus, concentration, creativity, and communication.  As a yoga educator, finding the confidence to offer yoga to kids is a wonderful tool to have in your repertoire of teaching skills.  It is especially relevant in todays technology rich world, where there is less time for creative play, and kids are facing more stress and anxiety at increasingly early ages, and attention deficit disorders are more common than ever before. The non-competitive nature of the practice combined with a focus on compassion and loving kindness makes yoga a healthy practice for kids of all ages.
Taught by Sheila Magalhaes, owner and director of Heartsong Yoga Center in East Longmeadow, MA, on faculty for the Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute with Beryl Bender Birch.  She brings over 20 years of experience working with students of all ages, and is also certified as a YogaEd Tools for Teachers instructor.
